Nursing
Travel nursing opportunities include positions in Med/Surg, Emergency Departments, ICUs, L&D/Mother-Baby and ORs.
Respiratory Therapists
WakeMed respiratory therapists provide respiratory care services for adult/geriatric, pediatric and neonatal patients.
Surgical Technologists
WakeMed surgical technologists ensure that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure maximizes patient safety.

Our hospitals and physician offices are located in Raleigh, Cary and surrounding areas in Wake and Johnston counties in North Carolina. Learn more about the area we serve.

We work with travel employees from all over the United States. Currently, North Carolina residents must reside at least 50 miles from Wake County to be considered for employment with WakeMed Travel Staffing.
As far as the day to day, there are very few differences as it is part of our culture to welcome contract staff as if they were regular employees of WakeMed. Staff are on-boarded just like regular employees and they participate in all activities of the department to which they are assigned.We are an inclusive organization and welcome all who share our passion for providing excellent care to our patients and families. Travel agency staff work three 12-hour shifts per week as needed. Paid time off is not available and any time off is without pay and requires approval from your supervisor.
Assignments are 13 weeks long and can be renewed for additional terms.
No. Travel agency staff are responsible for meeting all license and certifications as required for their position.
The Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) allows a nurse who resides in one of the participating states to practice in any of the states forming the compact state alliance. North Carolina is a participating compact state. Learn more about eNLC.

We offer a generous allowance for housing which is included in your hourly rate.
WakeMed will provide you with housing resources. Some offer discounts to WakeMed staff, particularly at some of the extended stay facilities. It is the responsibility of the employee to find housing. There are numerous options from single family homes to apartments of various sizes with extensive amenities and extended stay hotels. They are located in both urban and suburban areas of the city.
We offer a limited health insurance package for travel agency staff that includes health, dental and vision plans. These benefits to do not extend to family members. Benefits are effective the first of the month following 30 days of eligibility.
In addition to health insurance, we offer life insurance plus other health and wellness benefits that help you grow personally and professionally during your time at WakeMed.
Similar to the housing allowance, we offer a generous travel stipend that is included in your hourly rate of pay.
All WakeMed employees are responsible for obtaining their own uniforms that align with our uniform policy. The only exception is surgical areas where uniforms are provided to wear within the facility.
WakeMed issues paychecks every other Thursday. Depending on when your first day of work falls in the pay period schedule, it may be several weeks before you receive your first paycheck. Your offer letter will tell you when to expect your first paycheck.
No; however, you paid 1.5x for overtime and a premium for working holidays, and any on-call time.
Travel agency staff are ineligible for paid time off at WakeMed.
Travel agency staff have the option to contribute on a pre-tax basis to a 403(b)-tax deferred retirement savings plan. WakeMed does not contribute on behalf of travel agency staff to this plan.
Travel agency staff are allowed two absences during the 13-week period without pay. Three or more unexcused absences could result in termination of contract. WakeMed can cancel up to two shifts without pay in a 13-week period for low census.
