Residency Programs
WakeMed offers several programs that provide immersive educational experiences. Learn more about some of our residency programs.
The WakeMed Internal Medicine Residency Program is a categorical community-based hospital program with 15 residents at full complement. We accept five residents each year through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) code 2275140C0.
WakeMed's Clinical Nurse Residency is a one-year program that offers clinical and educational activities to facilitate professional development and personal growth for the new nurse graduate. The educationally-rich and emotionally-supportive environment provides nursing practice in collaboration with experienced preceptors. WakeMed is proud to report an average one-year post-hire retention rate of 90 percent (national average ranges from 35-65 percent). Learn more about this program.

Fellowship Programs

Since it's inception, WakeMed has provided high-quality, evidence-based practices for our patients and the community. As early advocates for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP), WakeMed has continually promoted the inclusion of APPs in our health system. Currently, the program has a total of 10 different tracks, spanning a wide variety of specialties. Learn more about this program.
WakeMed’s Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program prepares surgical intensivists to deliver high-quality, timely care to critically ill patients. Through the practice of up-to-date, evidence-based medicine, fellows are trained across the entire breadth of surgical critical care to support the health and well-being of our community.
