At WakeMed, Respiratory Therapists are responsible for administering respiratory care within the scope of their practice under a physician's order including, but not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, advanced airway management, arterial puncture and analysis, ECG's and mechanical ventilation. Dependent on role, patient populations may consist of adult/geriatric, pediatric and neonatal patients. The therapist plans, implements and evaluates effectiveness of therapy with communication to physician and health care team. Completion of age specific competencies is required. The staff therapist understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission, vision, and values in the management of patient care.

The Children's Transport Respiratory Therapist will function as an equal part of the transport team, assist in delivering comprehensive care to neonatal and pediatric patients and their families through the implementation of a plan of care. This plan is based upon the patient's developmental and health care needs identified through the assessment of the patient's physical, psychological, socioeconomic status, and physician orders regarding care, treatment, and education with a focus of respiratory disease and ventilation management. This includes, but is not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway management with intubations and extubations, arterial punctures and analysis, phlebotomy, ECGs and mechanical ventilation of the neonate, infant, child, adolescent and adult patient. The provider plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment, with communication to the team, physician and health care providers. 5 Years Clinical - Respiratory Therapy Required - With 3 Years Clinical - Neonatology And Clinical - Pediatrics Required - And/Or 2 Years Clinical - Prehospital Care Or Clinical - Critical Care Transport Preferred
