The Physician Assistant, Specialty - Cardio Surgery will work under the general supervision of the Cardiovascular Surgery primary supervising physician, all Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Partners, the Program Director, Mid-Level Program, WakeMed Heart Center and the WakeMed 3B & CTSU Management Teams to deliver competent medical care to an age specific population including adults and geriatric Cardiovascular Surgery patients at WakeMed during the hours of 7A-5P, weekend hours as designated and during all on-call emergency surgery backup. The position will provide direct surgical physician assistance to the operating CV Surgeon during the pre, peri and post operative phases of all cardiothoracic operative procedures, complete admission and pre-op work-ups, function as the on-site Cardiovascular Surgery on-call physician liaison to directly receive calls from staff and provide orders to staff to manage routine post-op surgical and medical care needs, provide orders for transfer or discharge as appropriate, and provide assistance in communicating directly with the Cardiovascular Surgery on-call physician during emergencies. Position to maintain the scope of practice to be consistent with the policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines governed by the North Carolina Medical Board, and any other federal or state regulatory agencies, as well as the policies and procedures of WakeMed.
