The Histology Technician, Sr. performs routine and specialized laboratory test and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments and other computer systems. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies. Takes a lead role in the development and implementation of new procedures, instrumentation, and computer functionality. Assumes responsibility for projects and/or functions. Serves as a resource in area of responsibility. Performs testing that requires specialized knowledge within a discipline and/or crosses disciplines. Trains new employees in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures, and evaluates their work. Assists supervisor/manager in review of laboratory reports, procedures, quality control. Serves as a technical resource and mentor to the staff. Assists with the technical and compliance requirements for regulatory agencies. Organizes and maintains updated technical resources for the department. oversees departmental proficiency testing. Assumes major responsibility for updating, reviewing departmental procedure manuals. Assists in the annual evaluation of the technical performance of employees.
