At WakeMed, Respiratory Therapists are responsible for administering respiratory care within the scope of their practice under a physician's order including, but not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, advanced airway management, arterial puncture and analysis, ECG's and mechanical ventilation. Dependent on role, patient populations may consist of adult/geriatric, pediatric and neonatal patients. The therapist plans, implements and evaluates effectiveness of therapy with communication to physician and health care team. Completion of age specific competencies is required. The staff therapist understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission, vision, and values in the management of patient care.

WakeMed Cary Hospital provides exceptional patient care to the residents of Cary, N.C., and the surrounding area. This full-service community hospital has 178 inpatient beds and is part of the WakeMed Health & Hospitals system. The only hospital in western Wake County, Cary Hospital offers an array of services including: surgical services; Women's Pavilion & Birthplace; intensive care; general medical and surgical nursing care; telemetry monitoring unit; cardiac and vascular catheterization labs; centers for advanced gastrointestinal, chest pain and sleep; inpatient rehab and outpatient specialty rehab services; and outpatient ancillary services. The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care services to all age groups including invasive and non-invasive ventilator management, airway management, aerosol medication administration, chest physical therapy, routine and advanced oxygen therapy, blood gas acquisition and analysis, pulmonary function testing, electrocardiogram acquisition and management, code blue and rapid response participation, neonatal resuscitation support at high risk infant deliveries, ventilator patient transport, and respiratory-focused patient teaching.

Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy Required
Certified Respiratory Therapist Required - And Registered Respiratory Therapist Required - And Basic Life Support Required - And Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support And Pediatric Advanced Life Support And Neonatal Resuscitation Program Required - Within 1 Year of Hire
